Right, so I've just watched the Blair Witch Project for the first time, to try and help further inspire me for some ideas on what to do for this Interactive video. I also watched a few scenes from Cabin Fever again as the setting would be quite similar.
So yes, the Blair Witch Project would be quite similar to what I'd be attempting. I would want the film to be in first person, but I wouldn't want it to feel like looking through the eyes of a camera. I'd rather have it so it feels like a first person view so that all the actions feel real BUT I want the film to have a cinematic feel to it, so I would still use the inclusion of cutaways and background music just to make it feel a bit more established and I guess professional.
Speaking of sound, I spent around an hour mucking around with my Bass FX pedal and managed to create some pretty creepy sounds from the bass but even more from the unplugged cable and then modifying the static sounds. I didn't manage to record them, but I noted down all the different techniques and FX to use so when I hire out some recording equipment, I will be able to capture it. I also realised today that I could plug a mic into my FX Pedal so I could also try modifying some voice sounds or other things. I'm quite glad that I discovered this because worst case scenario, I can just create all the sounds myself.
On the actual film base, I also have some clearer ideas in my head on the theme. I've realised that psychological horror wouldn't work too well on a first person film. It was the theme in the Blair Witch, but I thought at points because you didn't have a clue of what the horror is, it made it less threatening, but maybe that's just me... What I would prefer to do, is the classic horror style of some kind of derranged murderer or something but try to show them on screen as little as possible so it doesn't look so fake. I could make the interactivity in choices, just like the anti-shooter game I made in flash. I could make it so that the video pauses with a choice that comes up. After the choice is made, it could fade out, and the new scenario fades in otherwise, there would be a skip in footage on where the video switches.
I'm having some troubles in thinking on a story, but I still have about 2 weeks until I really need to start that. So I'll try and spend the next 2 weeks researching some more similar films and actually try and look around some possible locations for inspiration.
