So I've started the editing process of my Documentary which is currently under the name of 'Sustainable?' (subject to change) and touch wood, the process is going faster than I expected. All the footage captured from Windows Movie Maker and when I put it into Power Director, it converted into a perfect 16:9 ratio which is a great relief. Also, the audo and video quality is outstanding, I've used a DV Camera for projects before, but never has the audio and video quality been so crisp and vibrant... Even in the noisy areas of the Viridor site, I don't think I'll need to subtitle any of the film which is a good sign.
So far, I have edited the intro scene with the lightbulb, microwave, tap and trash fade which then goes into a proper introduction presentation from me. This then goes to me presenting on the Viridor site and then goes into Fiona Bussel's grand tour of the site. I've picked out all the best parts from what she says and put it into an order that's understandable for the audience. It's a shame I couldn't put the staff interview in, but looking at it, all the answers were very closed and didn't really answer much. Still, this is all stuff to be prepared for next time.
I've started my quest on music for the film and I can't use mp3.com as I had previously thought I could before as the music is not license free, so after quite a bit of googling, I stumbled across 'looperman.com' which features license free samples, loops and tracks and after previewing quite a few, I think this may be my library of music resource. I've had a bit of strain thinking of the most suitable music genre for the film and as my film didn't really end up having much of a comical element, I think some toned down industrial may fit in well, especially as industrial fits in well with the chosen subject of technology. I'm not totally sure where I'm going put music in, in the background, just in cutaways... But this is one of the elements that can come into play when we're a bit further through the project. I also haven't recorded the narration for the film yet, because I feel that it may be better to put the narration in at the end after most of the editing is completed so that the narration can be more accurate and related to what I decide to keep in the final video.
I couldn't do the video editing in College today because the power supply on my laptop is on it's last legs, and only charges the battery when it's held in which is of great inconvience and un-practical in class but I'm expecting a replacement any day to hopefully resolve this. So instead, I did some paperwork and further research in class, and did the editing just now at home so it's not really a big issue but just thought I'd mention it anyway.
