About Sixteen

'Me big sis says I gotta stop. Me teachers notice it, me family notice it and now, after all this time… I’ve come to notice it. Recently, things just haven’t been the way they used to be…'

Anthony is a sixteen year old teenager growing up in the working class area of Birmingham city. He lives with his disabled Mother and big sister who looks after the family. Times are hard for the boy, especially since his Father ran away after hearing the news about his Mother's recent unfortunate state. Ant was having troubles trying to fill the empty void in his life until one day he crossed paths with Tyrone. A feared criminal youth of the area who takes Ant under his wing like a younger brother, leading to a downward spiral into the world of urban life.

My newest film 'About Sixteen' is finally getting close to production! Started the first ideas of the film back in July and since then I've been slowly been building the story up with the aid of Matt (who's worked with me on many film production's before). The story is finished and pretty much solidified, just working on the script now. Not a massive amount of dialogue in this film as most of it is narrated as Ant tells the story about his life. Also, this film will end up being less than 10 mins in length.

For those unaware, it is about a struggling 16-year old boy that falls into a life of crime and drug abuse. The story is close to me as I have seen and heard of real life instances and so I hope this is a film that people can relate to. It also gives me the opportunity to work on some abstract, trippy imagery - something that I haven't had too much experience with in the past. Trying to get some actors and crew involved at the moment as shooting will begin in about 6 weeks. Hopefully this (current) advantage of time in my favour will allow this film to be closer to my imagination than my dedication of meeting tight deadlines has proved in the past.
